At the University of Wisconsin-Madison Global Health Institute (GHI), we believe health is interconnected across all living systems—human, animal, plant, and the environment. In today’s world, where global health challenges like emerging diseases, climate change, and resource scarcity are increasingly complex, we need innovative, transdisciplinary solutions. That’s where GHI is making a profound impact. And we need your help to ensure this work continues to grow and succeed.
Why GHI Matters: GHI is uniquely positioned to address the world’s most pressing health challenges by bringing together expertise from across 21 schools and colleges at UW-Madison. Our One Health approach, which links human, animal, plant, and environmental health, is essential for tackling the interconnected health crises of our time. We focus on five key areas:
- Emerging and infectious diseases
- Climate and land use change
- Resource security (food, water, and energy)
- Social, cultural, and economic equity
- Human, animal, and plant health
In two years, under my leadership, GHI has established a network of One Health Centers and projects in Colombia, India, Mexico, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. These centers foster critical partnerships, build research capacity, and drive impactful global health interventions.
