Tanumihardjo Links Orange Maize to Vitamin A in Children

GHI Special Advisor Sherry Tanumihardjo publishes new research showing orange maize improves vitamin A in children.

GHI Special Advisor Sherry Tanumihardjo is lead author on a new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, “Vitamin A: biomarkers of nutrition for development.”

A story in Harvest Plus takes a look at the study and visits with Tanumihardjo, a professor of nutritional sciences and director of the undergraduate Certificate in Global Health. “I’m confident that orange maize would be especially effective in increasing body stories of vitamin A in populations suffering from vitamin A deficiency,’ Tanumihardjo told Harvest Plus. The governments of Zambia and Nigeria have released several orange maize varieties.
