Perceptions of U.S. Researchers and Students Serving in Communities Abroad

Please join us for Coffee and Dessert and a chance to listen, weigh in, and dialogue on the issue of community partners’ perceptions of students and researchers from the U.S. when they come to work in other countries with your colleagues across campus who also work in these spaces. We will explore questions such as:

• What resources are there to help students develop skills like cultural awareness and humility?

• What ways have researchers used to build trust relationships with NGOs and grassroots organizations in other countries, in order to derive authentic data and affect real change?

• What does a “mutually reciprocal relationship” look like in practice?

We hope that you will not only attend, but also contribute to this discussion based on your experiences and research.

Reading materials and resources will be provided to attendees. The event is open to anyone on campus.
