A recent report found American Indian and Alaska Natives were “vastly underrepresented in American medical schools.” Danielle Yancey, the first full-time director for the Native American Center for Health Professions, is looking to address that.

UW-Madison professor of bacteriology Cameron Currie has shown that some of insect-associated microbes provide their hosts with protection against infections, suggesting that insects and their microbiomes may be a rich new source of antibiotics for use in human medicine.

As the climate warms, tens of thousands of lakes may spend winters ice free
A new study published by an international team of researchers, including at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, shows that many northern latitude lakes are at risk of experiencing some ice-free winters in the coming decades. In some places, lake ice will disappear altogether by the end of the century.
