“Moving Global Health Forward” at the 2024 Annual Global Health Symposium

The Global Health Institute (GHI) and the Office of Global Health (OGH) at the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) held the 19th Annual Global Health Symposium, Moving Global Health Forward, on April 10, 2024, 4:30-8:30pm at the Health Sciences Learning Center & via Livestream.

The event was attended by more than 325 people in-person and virtually, and featured keynote speakers Erin Barbato, Director of the Immigrant Justice Clinic, UW Law School; and Sara McKinnon, Faculty Director, LACIS, and Professor of Rhetoric, Politics & Culture, Department of Communication Arts, sharing their work on both the Safe Passage from the Darién Gap and Migration in the Americas projects. In addition, there was a fireside chat about global health projects at UW-Madison with Frances Vavrus, Vice Provost and Dean, International Division; Robert N. Golden, Dean, SMPH; and Kristin Long, Associate Professor, Endocrine Surgery, SMPH, and Jorge Osorio, Director, Global Health Institute. James Conway, Director, Office of Global Health at SMPH served as emcee for the event and moderated the keynote Q&A session.

There were also two dozen poster presentations and networking opportunities. GHI and OGH at SMPH thanks all participants and attendees for a wonderful event with thoughtful presentations and discussions on how UW-Madison is building on the legacy to move global health projects and opportunities forward.
