    Zoua M. Vang is the Meta Schroeder Beckner Outreach Professor, a Professor of Civil Society and Community Studies in the School of Human Ecology, and an Integrated Specialist in the Ecology of Healthy Communities in the Division of Extension’s Institute for Health and Well-Being. Zoua is a medical sociologist whose research in northern and remote, rural, and urban communities encompass (i) maternal and child health, (ii) international migration (including the healthy immigrant effect), (iii) Indigenous health, (iv) racism and discrimination as social determinants of wellness, (v) community-based approaches to health equity, and (vi) cultural safety. Trained as a mixed-method researcher, she employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and community-based participatory research (CBPR) approaches in her projects. Zoua received her MA and PhD from Harvard University and her BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
