Karen Kopacek is an associate professor (Clinical Health Sciences) in the Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research Division and associate dean for Student Affairs in the Office of Student Services at the School of Pharmacy.
Karen’s practice experience is in acute care, with interests in cardiology and critical care medicine. She also practices in Cardiac Rehabilitation at UW Health Preventive Cardiology, Beaver Dam Community Hospital, and Fort Healthcare. She also works part-time as an inpatient pharmacist at Fort Healthcare.
Her professional memberships include American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Society of Critical Care Medicine, American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
Background: Karen joined the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in August 2002 as a Coordinator of the Pharmacotherapy Lab for the entry-level PharmD program. She graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 1988.
Professional Interests: Karen’s professional interests focus on expanding the pharmacist’s role in patient education through outpatient cardiac rehabilitation and post hospital discharge patient call back programs. In her spare time, she volunteers her services at the Dean/St. Marys Neighborhood Asthma Clinic, Camp WIKIDAS (WIsconsin KIDs with ASthma), and the Badger Breathers support group.
