Bruce Christensen, Professor Emeritus, continues to work in the general fields of Parasitology and Medical Entomology, aligning with the Department of Pathobiological Sciences in the School of Veterinary Medicine. Mosquito-borne diseases, including malaria, lymphatic filariasis and numerous arboviruses, have been at the forefront of his research interests. Factors influencing the competence of insect vectors for the pathogens they transmit have been a central theme of these research endeavors. International collaborative research has involved studies in Taiwan, Egypt, Mexico, Papua New Guinea and most recently work in Colombia in concert with the GHI One Health Center-Colombia. This present project is aimed at clarifying the epidemiology of mansonellosis and its impact on indigenous populations in the Colombian Amazon.
