Mindy Habecker from UW Extension will share her experiences working with 65 farmers in rural southeastern Ghana near Ada. The two week project through Farmer to Farmer, US AID was to assist members of the Afiadenyigba tribe form a farmer’s cooperative. These farmers grow cassava, watermelon, tomatoes, okra, and raise a variety of livestock. The project helped them develop farmer cooperative by-laws and provided other needed guidance while also training them on group dynamics and building the skills they would need to run an organization.
This presentation will give an overview of this work in a remote area with spotty electricity and 50 percent illiteracy in the group. It will also provide a brief travelogue of entering this adventure solo as a first time international work experience.
The talk is sponsored by UW Center for Cooperatives.
