Climate Change & Public Health: Policy in Action Social Hour & Panel Discussion


Members of the American Public Health Association (APHA) are invited to a Social Hour and Evening Panel celebrating the UW-Madison Climate Change Policy and Public Health Massive Open Online Course that begins Nov. 9. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, November 1, with a social hour, followed by a panel discussion at 6:45 p.m., question and answer at 8:00 p.m., and networking at 8:45 p.m. The evening is scheduled in conjunction with the APHA Annual Meeting.

Andrew Revkin from the New York Times moderates a panel discussion featuring GHI Director and MOOC leader Jonathan Patz, the John P. Holton Chair in Health and the Environment who was lead author for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for 15 years. They will be joined by:

  • Linda Rudolph, director of the Center for Climate Change and Health, Public Health Institute, Oakland, California
  • Bill McKibben (via video), author, journalist, educator and environmentalist
  • Howard Frumkin, dean and professor of environmental and occupational health sciences in the School of Public Health, University of Washington
  • Howard Learner, president and executive director, Environmental Law and Policy Center, Chicago
  • Nisha Botchwey, associate professor, School of City and Regional Planning, Georgia Institute of Technology
