Provost Sarah Mangelsdorf has issued a call for pre-proposals for the Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment competition. The deadline for pre-proposals is Jan. 26, 2015.
“This endowment helps foster the Wisconsin Idea, the philosophy that the knowledge, ideas and solutions generated at the university benefit the people of Wisconsin, our nation and the world,” Mangelsdorf writes.
The call for pre-proposals follows:
The Office of the Provost is soliciting proposals from faculty, staff, and students for the spring 2015 Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment competition. This endowment helps foster the Wisconsin Idea, the philosophy that the knowledge, ideas and solutions generated at the University benefit the people of Wisconsin, our nation and the world.
Proposals are encouraged for new outreach and public engagement activities that partner with community and off-campus organizations to extend and apply our research, education and clinical knowledge to help solve problems or take advantage of opportunities. Projects may begin on or after July 1, 2015 and last up to three years. This year, the committee will pilot an approach that will award up to ten mini-grants of $4,000 or less, in addition to larger awards of up to $120,000. The amount granted each year is determined by the annual income from the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. This year we anticipate we will make awards totaling approximately $700,000.
The Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment call for proposals involves two steps: 1) UW-Madison faculty, staff or students must first submit a pre-proposal; and 2) individuals whose pre-proposals are accepted will be invited to submit a full proposal. Pre- and full proposals must be signed off at the departmental and dean’s/director’s levels before submission to the Office of the Provost. Pre-proposals are due in your Dean’s office by noon, Monday, January 26, 2015. A signed copy of the pre-proposal cover sheet and pre-proposal are due in the Office of the Provost by noon, Friday, February 6, 2015. We will announce which pre-proposals have been selected for advancement to the final stage during the week of March 18, 2015.
