Apply now for China/Guatemala professional field courses

Guatemala photoGraduate and medical students can apply now global health field courses in China and Guatemala.

The application deadline is Jan. 15, 2015, and students will be notified of the results by Jan. 31.

“Health Care in Urban China” takes students to Beijing and Shanghai where they will shadow and learn from local health care professionals and visit hospitals and clinics. They will have the chance to visit outpatient, inpatient, surgery, otolaryngology and pharmacy departments while considering how Chinese and Western medicine differ and also are integrated.

Dr. Jack Jiang and Ellen Conroy lead the course June 8-22, 2015.

Medical students also have the opportunity to join a service-learning course in Guatemala to work with San Lucas Mission in its satellite clinics.

Participants organize supplies, travel to clinic sites, screen patients and present them to providers for evaluation. They can also volunteer for a local diabetes clinic and participate in community projects.

Dr. James Svenson and physician assistant Kevin Wyne lead the course in late July or early August.
