Amanda Hafer

Graduate • Professional Certificate

Hometown: Woodstock, Illinois

Interest in global health: Her interest began in high school with her first international trip. She has been on several medical mission trips to Haiti and Honduras and hopes to use the knowledge gained from the global health certificate in the near future. She chose Wisconsin for pharmacy school because of the global health certificate program.

Field experience: Pharmacy clinical rotation, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Great Britain

Future plans: She plans to pursue a pharmacy residency, eventually working in ambulatory care or a hospital setting and incorporating public and global health into her long-term career plans.

“I have always had a passion for global health and travel, but never had any official training in that area to apply to my medical mission work and international experiences. Completing the certificate in global health has given me the background and education in the appropriate subjects needed to address public health issues and other experiences locally and globally. The many topics discussed in the coursework have given me tools to use in order to better health outcomes for the overall population in different settings.” — Amanda Hafer
