Health Vulnerability and Adaptation Strategies to Climate Change in Ethiopia

Ethiopia is among the countries most vulnerable to the negative effects of climate change. Associate Professor Belay Simane, head of the Center for Environment and Development and associate dean for research in the College of Development Studies at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, is a leader in ecosystem-based climate change analysis. He looks especially at mitigation and adaption options, community-based watershed management and environmental management systems. His article “The Sustainability of Community-Based Adaptation in the Choke Mountain Watersheds, Blue Nile Highlands, Ethiopia,” was published in the Proceedings of the Third World Sustainability Forum. He has also analyzed the agro-ecosystem in the Choke Mountain watersheds and helped create a framework for action to build climate change resilience in the area.
