At the Georgia Institute of Technology, Dr. Kim Cobb holds positions as a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, ADVANCE Professor for Institutional Diversity, and Georgia Power Chair. She received a Ph.D. in Oceanography in 2002 at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at the University of California–San Diego. Dr. Cobb’s areas of expertise include paleoclimate modeling, tropical Pacific climate variability and change, climate model-data intercomparison, water isotope and global hydrology, and geochemistry. Her research uses corals and cave stalagmites to reconstruct tropical Pacific temperature and rainfall patterns over the last decades to millennia. Dr. Cobb has sailed on six oceanographic cruises and led five caving expeditions to the rainforests of Borneo in support of her research.
