Peter Marcotullio is a professor of geography and director of the City University of New York Institute for Sustainable Cities. He will discuss how cities can be part of the solution to global sustainability challenges. CISC merges the science of sustainability with innovative public programming, examining how cities can proactively respond to environmental change.

The Institute explores the nature and complexity of cities through patterns of consumption, environmental vulnerability and resilience, and ecosystem services. Marcotullio’s research interests include urban sustainable development, globalization and cities, and the relationship between urbanization and environmental change.

Marcotullio will also participate in the May 12 Livable Cities Symposium at the Pyle Center. The symposium brings together researchers and students from across campus who are working with communities.
